What this site sends, and where

On your device

Your choices are kept in your browser's local storage and never leave the device: the location or city you picked, whether you allowed the camera and microphone, the script you read in, your concert pitch, and your Sa for kharaj practice.

Clearing your browser's site data for samayraag.com removes all of it.

Your location

The site asks your browser for your coordinates so the prahar can be worked out from your real sunrise. The calculation happens in your browser; the coordinates are not sent to this site, which has no server to send them to — it is a set of static files.

One exception, and it is the only one: to show a place name rather than coordinates, the position is rounded to about a kilometre and looked up once with BigDataCloud's reverse-geocoding service. If you search for a city instead, only what you type is sent, to Open-Meteo's geocoding service.

Refusing location costs you nothing but accuracy: the site falls back to a default city and says it is guessing.

Camera and microphone

Riyaz uses the camera to track a hand; Kharaj uses the microphone to measure a held note. Both run entirely in your browser. No frame and no audio is recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere.

The hand, face and body-outline models are fetched from Google's CDN when you turn those features on. Google's library reports its own usage back to Google as it runs; that carries no part of the picture, and this page cannot switch it off. The pages say so where the feature is offered.

Feedback

If you send a correction, what is stored is what you typed, the YouTube link if you gave one, which raag was playing, which page you were on, and the time. It goes to a Firestore database belonging to this site.

No name, no email, no address, and nothing identifying you — unless you type it yourself, so please do not.

YouTube

Recordings play through YouTube's embedded player, loaded from youtube.com or youtube-nocookie.com. Once a player loads, YouTube may set cookies and collect data under its own policies, which are outside this site's control. Google's privacy policy covers that at policies.google.com/privacy.

Advertising and analytics

This site carries Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure advertising, including personalised advertising where you have consented to it. You can review and change Google's ad settings at adssettings.google.com, and opt out of personalised advertising by other vendors at aboutads.info.

Where analytics is enabled, it is Google Analytics, which records page views and rough location at city level. Both can be blocked by any content blocker without breaking the site.

Visitors in the UK and the European Economic Area are shown a consent message before personalised advertising cookies are set, as required.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and collects nothing knowingly from them.

If what this site does with data changes, this page changes with it.
